Spring Break 2010

  • Brett and I have been watching Lisa Kudrow's special on PBS about genealogy and it got me curious about my family, so I started putting our family tree online. It was pretty easy because there have been a couple of people who have figured out different branches of my family before and then I did a little research on my one using ancestry.com (they have a free trial if you're interested). I've always heard I was from a few different places, but didn't know if there was proof. So far, I'm Irish, English, Dutch, Greek, and I think Brett is Welch. I have back to the 1300s on some parts. I know I was told I was Greek before but I thought I was like 1/100 Greek...turns out I'm 1/8. Don't I feel a little silly that I never realized that. Now that I know part of what I am I feel like I should have some innate ability to have their accents now. ;-
  • Here are my favorite names from relatives. Maybe our future child can be named after one of these: Huldah Bloodgood, VanNess, Amphyllis, Quaysh, Obedience, Crandall, Ariaantgen, Dorcas, Mary Polly Lott, Zipha, Mertis Pruett, Dieuwergen Sijmonsdr (needs some vowels), Alexander Gerasimos Vavasis, Bartholomeus Pieter Hyugens Vrooman (all four names for one person), and Birdie.
  • Other random fact -- I have a Virgie, a Carrie, and a Moriah in my familiy (all three were my roomates in college)
  • Spring weather: We've been going on lots of walks, which Hazel appreciates. We went down to the Trinity Trails in Ft. Worth which was super fun. We hadn't been, but we will definitely go back.
  • We've been out to dinner with some friends, relaxed, cleaned...much needed, did laundry...way needed, Brett worked a lot, we're going to the movies today...we go about once a year, I got a hair cut...also becoming a once a year tradition...maybe I'll work on that. ;)
  • And, now, I'm patiently waiting for the best time of year...SUMMER!

  1. I love that show!! :) It's so interesting! I won't ever have to do that for Brock's side of the family though... they have 2 binders full of it :)

  2. I have an ancestor named "Deliverance." You should name your kid Obedience, and I'll name my next one Deliverance.
